Video Card Drivers

August 26th, 2010 by misfedidos

IBM made the first video card in 1981. It was called Monochrome Display Adapter (MDA). The card was only capable of displaying one color and had 80×25 text-only display, with a 4KB memory.

Video cards are hardware pieces that generate the images you see on your monitor. Without this you could not use the software you have, because you could not see the images to work it. The CPU sends applications to the video card, and the video card decides how to use the pixels to make the correct image appear on the monitor. There are 4 parts that make up a video card.

#1- Motherboard connection- The motherboard gives the power and data to the video card.

#2- Processor- The ability to generate geometric calculations (GPU) to produce the picture.

#3- Memory- The data that the GPU produces is temporarily stored on RAM. The RAM sends it to the Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) to convert image to analog signals that the monitor uses to display the image.

#4- Monitor connection- The video card is connected to the monitor to receive all images sent.

Three other names for video cards are: Graphics Accelerator Card, Display Adapter, and Graphics Card. From the year 1981 to 1987 three other standards of video cards were presented to computer users.

*Color Graphics Adapter (CGA) 640×200 graphic mode display, 16 colors, 16KB memory

*Enhanced Graphic Adapter (EGA) 640×350 graphic mode display, 16 colors, 256KB memory

*Multi-Color Graphics Adapter (MCGA) 320×200 graphic mode display, 256 colors

Video Graphics Adapter (VGA) was produced in 1987. It contained 720×400 text-only display, 640×480 graphic mode display, 256 colors and a 256KB memory. Companies like S3, Cirrus Logic, and ATI soon possessed the same capabilities as VGA. Not wanting to be out done, they made the Super VGA (SVGA) with 1024×768 resolutions, 256 color mode and 2 MB video memory. New improvements continued to be made until 1995 ,when they thought they had reached the top, 2D and 3D cards were created. They were released by Creative Matrox, S3 and ATI. These cards were based on the SVGA, but with the addition of 2D and 3D capabilities.

NVIDIA dominated the video card market between 1999 and 2002 with their version, the GeForce video cards. They went from 32MB in GeForce to 128MB in the GeForce 4. Their leadership was soon taken away by ATI in 2006 when they introduced Radeon Video Cards to the computer consumer.

There are several leading video card producers such as: NVIDIA, ATI Technologies, 3Dlabs, Matrox Graphics, SiS Inc., ABIT Ltd., Aopen, ASUSTek Computer, Gainward (CardExpert), LeadTek Research, MSI Inc., PNY Technologies, and Sapphire Technologies.

Praktische Blutzelldiagnostik (INSTAND-Schriftenreihe) (German Edition)

August 25th, 2010 by misfedidos

Casio CS-67 Keyboard Stand for PX130 and PX330

Surprisingly sturdy and good looking! – K. Eng –
Nice accessory! It’s form-fitting against the piano, adds a steel bar reinforcement across the width of the piano’s underside, made of heavy, dense wood, and has an elegant matte-black finish. This is a surprisingly sturdy, easy to assemble piece of furniture, and complements the piano nicely. The pedal board is not nearly as well constructed, but completes the package.

The Importance of Car Services

August 17th, 2010 by misfedidos

Today, the whole world appears to be always on the run as people move from one place to another either for business or for personal reasons. If you happen to be among the many that does lots of motorway driving, car services are of paramount importance. Regular car servicing will ensure that everything in your car ticks along smoothly so you can go about your daily business a bit easier. Car services are also an integral part of preventive maintenance that will keep your car in tip-top shape and in good running condition all the time.

A regular car service usually include the following: change of engine oil and oil filter; checks on the levels of coolant, brake and power steering fluid; inspection of lights, turn signals, brakes, clutch, tire pressure, shocks, struts, suspension, wiper blades and batteries; a analysis of onboard diagnostics; and replacement of air filter and spark plug. A detailed breakdown of some of these services will give you a better understanding and appreciation of the benefits they offer.

Changing the engine oil and oil filter will largely depend on the type used during the previous service. The engine oils that we are now using have been upgraded from mineral to semi-synthetic to fully synthetic oils. Synthetic oils are generally superior in quality as compared to the old mineral type. It will last longer and provide better engine protection. For instance, there are synthetic-based oils that can protect the engine because of their magnetic properties. Others prevent the build-up of contaminants while protecting the engine from rust and corrosion.

Fluid checks for the brake, steering and coolant systems are equally important and they should be topped up as needed. As the car owner, you can do these relatively simple checks once in a while. Insufficient engine coolant can cause significant engine damage. This could be very costly if the head gasket or the big ends are damaged as this would require an engine replacement. On the other hand, lack of power steering and brake fluid can also lead to problems with control systems which are vital for driver safety.

Virtually all modern cars have integrated onboard electronics which typically include auto diagnostic features. A well equipped service garage can easily link into such systems to check for any recurrent or imminent problems that may have taken place since the last service, thereby giving an additional layer of security. Air filters need replacement every 25,000 to 50,000 miles. A choked air filter will restrict air flow to the engine which can lead to reduced power along with an increase in fuel consumption. Spark plugs may also require replacement. This component is inexpensive but is the most important piece for engine tuning. Most manufacturers recommend the replacements of spark plugs every 30,000 to 50,000 miles although long life units boast of having a lifespan of up to 100,000 miles.

Having said all these, it becomes evident that you must choose a car service garage carefully. Bring your car to a garage with factory trained technicians who have comprehensive knowledge of your car in order to provide useful information and to make the necessary repairs to your vehicle safely and correctly. Finally, regardless of your car brand and model, following the manufacturer’s suggested service schedule will mean that your car is less likely to break down and it will also help you when you come to sell it on too.

Visit Macarthur Automotive for more information on the different types of car services that are important for your car.
